The "mother of all thermal baths" is located at the southern end of the Gastein Valley, directly opposite the Stubnerkogelbahn and Bad Gastein train station. The Felsentherme in Bad Gastein was built directly into the rock in 1968 as the first public thermal bath in Austria and is considered an architectural highlight and insider tip among thermal bath fans.
The highest thermal spa in Salzburg, at over 1,100 meters above sea level, offers above all rest, relaxation and regeneration in combination with a breathtaking panoramic view of the mountains of the Hohe Tauern.

When it was built in 1968, the Felsentherme was Austria’s first public spa and was carved directly into the natural rock at an altitude of 1,100 metres above sea level. Thanks to the combination of rock and modern architecture, it is regarded as a unique architectural masterpiece.
The pools at the Felsentherme are fed daily with more than one million litres of natural thermal water from the Gastein springs. Thanks to this large volume of fresh water, chemical additives such as chlorine are hardly necessary. The thermal water is enriched with valuable minerals, promoting a sense of well-being, vitalising the cells and harmonising bodily functions. The water’s natural radon content is removed in the spa area.
The Panorama Wellness Area comprises 8 saunas and steam baths, as well as 2 cold-water pools, spread over more than 600 m². The spacious sun deck with two outdoor saunas is particularly recommended. Here, sauna-guests can relax whilst enjoying a magnificent panoramic view of the Gastein mountains and breathing in the fresh alpine air.
Although the spa places great emphasis on tranquillity, there is an adventure spa area offering water fun for the whole family, for example in the two separate pools with a lazy river and rock grotto, in the toddlers’ pool and on the 70-metre-long adventure slide. As this area is physically separated from the relaxation spa, families can enjoy themselves whilst those seeking relaxation remain undisturbed.
Yes, a stress-free journey by train is perfectly possible and highly recommended. Bad Gastein railway station is directly opposite the Felsentherme Bad Gastein; you can walk straight from the station to the spa via the footbridge.
